Whidbey Island is famous for many sweet things – bridges, ferry boats, whales, beaches, quaint seaside towns, the arts, etc etc – now ice cream must be added to the list.
Wednesday’s Everett Herald reported on a taste test competition between six Northwest ice cream brands in which the Whidbey brand tied with Alden’s for top honors.
They didn’t even try the Chocolate Chardonnay. If they had Whidbey Island would have come out unequivocally on top. Tom discovered chocolate covered ice cream bars in this flavor at Sebo’s Hardware in Bayview when he stopped in to buy some screws. Unfortunately he introduced me to them as well. Now neither of us can go into Sebo’s without salivating, which is an odd response to a hardware store, even for a contractor.
Congratulations Whidbey Island Ice Cream Company.
By the way – this competition was held in-house at the Herald newsroom. Do reporters know how to pick great subjects or what?
